This course will focus on how the Medieval Period and some key theological ideas and discussions that occured in that time.

We will spend time considering theologians such as Anselm, Aquinas, Francis of Assissi and Thomas a Kempis.

Each day will have 5 hour-long lectures and will run from 10am to 4pm at Burwood Presbyterian Church.

Day 1 (Monday the 8th September)

  1. The Rule of St Benedict
  2. Boethius
  3. Peter Lombard’s Sentences
  4. Bonaventure , Thomas Aquinas, and developing a Christian philosophy
  5. Aquinas the ‘Summa’

Day 2 (Tuesday the 9th September)

  1. Anselm, Cur Deus Homo
  2. Bernard of Clairvaux and Peter Abelard
  3. Francis of Assisi and the Friars
  4. Unam Sanctum – Church and State
  5. Thomas a Kempis, Imitation of Christ
