Sound Walk by the water is a slow walk focused on active and mindful listening to the environment and all the sounds within it. Participants will be guided in listening practices, reflect on the soundscape around them, and learn about listening to Country from a Dharug perspective.
Expand your understanding of listening and be renewed by Prospect Creek and De Freitas Wetland in Fairfield, with Cabrogal / Dharug Knowledge-holder Stacy-Jane Etal and Sound artist / Composer Oonagh Sherrard.
The walk will be happening on Tuesday, July 8th 2025 from 10:30am to 12:30pm. Please meet by 10:15am by the gate at Makepeace Oval: 50 Vine St. Fairfield before the walk officially commences at 10:30am.
Please ensure that you are wearing good walking shoes and that you bring your own water bottle as well as a packed lunch.
The event will be recorded and form part of an installation & online SoundWalk as part of the HOLDING SPACE – Rituals of Welcome project. This event is also dependent on weather conditions – you will be notified if there are any changes or cancellations.
HOLDING SPACE is funded by the NSW Government through the Multicultural NSW COMPACT Program. Our project collaborators are SSI’s Community Refugee Welcome Centre located at Callan Park, Lilyfield, and the Sydney Opera House.
