About this event

On the occasion of the eighth edition of Fare Cinema—the annual event promoted by Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Fondazione Cinema per Roma—the Italian Cultural Institute in Sydney is proud to present the 2025 Italian comedy U.S. Palmese, directed by the acclaimed Manetti brothers, Marco and Antonio, and starring Rocco Papaleo and Blaise Afonso.

Set between the bustling city of Milan and a quiet town in Calabria, U.S. Palmese tells the story of Etienne Morville, a former football star whose promising career was cut short by scandal. Reluctantly accepting an offer to join the struggling amateur team U.S. Palmese, Morville enters a world far removed from the glamour of professional sports. What begins as a mere publicity stunt soon evolves into a heartfelt journey of self-discovery, community spirit, and unexpected redemption.

With its vibrant mix of comedy, sport, and social commentary, the film is brought to life through playful visual effects inspired by comic books and classic Italian cinema. U.S. Palmese received two nominations at the prestigious Nastri d’Argento Awards: Best Comedy and Best Actor (Rocco Papaleo).

The screening will be in Italian with English subtitles.
