Join us for a powerful conversation with Dr Tracy Westerman AM - psychologist, author and trailblazer in Aboriginal mental health, suicide prevention and cultural competency.
A proud Nyamal woman from the Pilbara region of Western Australia, Dr Westerman has long been recognised as a leading voice in the fight for culturally informed mental health care. In 2003, she became the first Aboriginal person in Australia to complete a combined Master’s and PhD in Clinical Psychology - an extraordinary achievement made even more remarkable by her background of disadvantage, and schooling via distance education.
At this event, Dr Westerman will reflect on her 2024 memoir, Jilya: How One Indigenous Woman from the Remote Pilbara Transformed Psychology. The book traces her journey from humble beginnings to national leadership, offering a deeply personal and sharp critique of mainstream psychology’s failure to meet the needs of Aboriginal communities.
Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from one of Australia’s most influential and inspiring thinkers as she shares her insights on healing, resilience, and systemic change.
