Healthy North Coast, in collaboration with John Hunter Children’s Hospital and Hunter New England LHD, invites you to a focused education session on paediatric immunology and allergy.
Dr Kahn Preece, Senior Staff Specialist in Paediatric Allergy and Immunology at John Hunter Children’s Hospital and Conjoint Senior Lecturer at the University of Newcastle, will lead the session. Dr Preece will present a case-based discussion exploring common and uncommon non-IgE mediated food allergies in infants and children. The session will also address myths and misconceptions around food allergy diagnosis and the role of testing.
Learning objectives:
- Identify delayed non-IgE mediated food allergy
- Discuss conditions where the role of food is uncertain
- Understand the role of the maternal diet in presentations involving a breastfeeding infant
- Understand the limitations and role of testing for specific IgE – skin or serum
- Understand the potential complications and adverse outcomes from dietary restrictions in children
