About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour

Background
Social engagement interventions such as intergenerational programs have been shown to reduce dementia risk and promote healthy ageing. However, older men remain critically underrepresented in these initiatives, limiting both their benefits and the generalisability of findings.

This seminar will present findings from the Lost in Translation project, supported by UNSW Ageing Futures Institute seed funding. Through a series of focus groups and a national survey, the study explored the gendered, linguistic, and structural barriers that deter older men from participating in intergenerational research.

The seminar will discuss practical strategies to foster more inclusive recruitment and program design, ultimately supporting greater participation of older men in social interventions aimed at promoting cognitive and mental health in ageing.
