Junior Rangers, Saturday 21 June | Walkabout Creek Discovery Centre

Discover the wildlife that might be living (or lurking) locally as our Junior Rangers learn how to identify the signs, tracks, and scats of native fauna. Grab a hand lens to check for evidence of diggings, scratch marks, feathers, and, of course, animal poo (looking, not touching). Once the kids have practised these skills out in the park, they'll get creative to make their very own ‘Tracks & Traces’ ID Booklet for use on future bushwalks. Let's get tracking!

Please note that this free sessions is for children aged 8–12 only. Registration for this event does not include admission to the centre for family members or others outside of the session.

Parks Connect is proudly supported through funding from the Queensland Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation.

Frequently asked questions

Can I bring younger or older siblings?

This child-only event is for kids aged 8-12 years and will not suit younger children. Older teens should book for the Cadet Ranger program. However, parents are free to bring siblings to Walkabout Creek and relax in the cafe or grounds while this child-only 8–12 event is on.

Does a parent/guardian have to be there the whole time?

A parent/guardian must sign in/out all kids under 16 years of age, and all participants must leave emergency contact details with staff. Only kids participate in the 1.5-hr event onsite, so parents can choose to relax at the cafe/ grounds or return later. Parents must pick up children on time.

Who should I contact if I need advice before or on the day.

Before the day, please email [email protected] with any queries you may have. On the day, please contact the Program Lead, Alina Crosbie, on 0478 081 487.

What happens if the dates/time change.

NPAQ reserves the right to change dates/times in the event of weather conditions or other factors (often outside of our control). Should dates/times change, we will attempt to contact all booked attendees via email or phone details at the earliest opportunity to alert you to the change.

What does my child need to bring?

All children must wear sun safe clothing, hat and covered shoes suitable for bushwalking. They should carry a water bottle with them and bring a snack if required (small backpack is sensible). The event will proceed in wet weather so please bring a rain jacket if needed.

Organized by

NPAQ advocates for the protection, expansion, effective management and presentation of national parks.
