Introduction to Ukulele Course Overview:
In week one we will learn how to hold and tune our ukuleles and be introduced to its unique history and sound. We will set the foundation for strumming and fingerpicking, learning some simple patterns and chord progressions. And play lots of songs!
In the following weeks we will consolidate on the techniques from the previous week and start looking at more complex chord shapes. We will also start to explore more strumming patterns incorporating chunking and the island strum.
As the course progresses, we will learn to apply our basic techniques to different songs and genres while expanding our chord repertoire. Every week we will introduce new techniques, some simple picking exercises and get lots of strumming in! By the end of the 8 weeks, you will have music to practice and the tools to play your own favourite tunes.
This is a class primarily for beginners but if you have played before and have an interest in the ukulele you are more than welcome to attend and there will be some intermediate exercises provided for you to learn.
The course is open to people 16 years and older.
