About this event

The eighth edition of Fare Cinema will be held from 16th to 22nd of June 2025. The event organized by Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, was firstly launched in 2018 with the aim of providing worldwide audiences with an insight of the Italian film industry.

On the occasion of the 2025 edition, the Italian Cultural Institute in Sydney is pleased to present the movie Palazzina LAF - the 2023 Italian drama film co-written and directed by Michele Riondino in his directorial debut and starring along with renowned actor Elio Germano.

Set in Taranto in the late 1990s, Palazzina Laf tells the story of Caterino Lamanna, a worker at the Ilva steel plant who is suddenly promoted and assigned to “monitor” his colleagues inside the infamous “Palazzina LAF” — a department where troublesome or unwanted employees were isolated.

Amid pressure, silence, and compromise, Caterino finds himself torn between the chance for personal redemption and the risk of losing his own dignity. Inspired by a true story, the film offers a powerful look at the relationship between labour, power, and conscience, set against the backdrop of one of Italy’s greatest industrial wounds.

Palazzina Laf received widespread acclaim from both critics and audiences, establishing itself as one of the most significant Italian films of 2023.

The movie will be in ITALIAN WITHOUT SUBTITLES This is a paid event – admission ticket $5.
