Get ready to celebrate World Environment Day at Redland City Council's Environment and Community Fair at IndigiScapes.


Featuring our popular Eco Markets, with live music and entertainment and live broadcast by Bay FM's Tony Tranter and the team from 'G'day it's Saturday.'

Host Ranger Stacey will welcome you under the shade of the trees as you settle in for the official Opening Ceremony followed by an interactive Q&A session with ABC Gardening Australia presenter Clarence Slockee. Clarence is from the Bundjalung Nation from north coast NSW and is the Education Officer at the Sydney Botanic Gardens, where his work involves promoting Aboriginal culture, native landscaping and bush tucker which he will share at a separate workshop.

Classically trained dancer and Gubbi Gubbi / Ugarapul woman, Soraya Fewquandie-Scott will perform three engaging dances throughout the day. Black Cockatoo, Footsteps and Yirimi Gundir.

Wander through the Botanic Garden lane to explore unique eco markets and our suitcase rummage within the beautiful native botanic garden surrounds at IndigiScapes!

Enjoy live music in the gardens and roving entertainment with our fungi maidens and an 'acro'-bat!

You won't want to miss the energetic drum beats and dance on stage with Hello Africa who will have you on your feet.

Who will be speaking on the main stage?

  • ABC Gardening Australia presenter, native landscape specialist and Northern Rivers Bundjalung man, Clarence Slockee will share his knowledge about native edible plants and bush food.
  • Snake ecology and toxicology with University of Queensland scientist, owner and Instructor at the Australian Reptile Academy, Dr Christina Zdenek, MSc., MPhil, PhD.
  • If you have ever wondered what lerp is, what a pardalote sounds like, or how to learn bird calls, this talk is for you. Ecologist, Land for wildlife conservation coordinator and avid birder, Deborah Metters will help you identify the sounds from your backyard in an interactive 'Nature’s wildlife calling' competition.
  • ‘Ending Plastic Pollution’ is the UN identified theme for World Environment Day. Katie Barton-Harvey from Boomerang Alliance will help to dispel a few myths around recyclable takeaway packaging, and inspire behaviour change so that we can all play a role to end plastic pollution.
  • Urban Bee Co.will have you buzzing about their Native bees for beginners talk in the Sustainability Garden.
  • Learn more about our 'Power pollinators' - bats, birds and bees with Urban Bee Co and Bat Conservation and Rescue.
  • Meet the inspirational Kieron Douglass, Ultra Runner, Conservationist & Mental Health Advocate

Environment Education

  • Hear about the significant conservation work of local Environmental and Community organisations

Enjoy a selection of local food available from the IndigiCafe, fresh produce stalls, food and coffee vans to help keep the hunger pangs at bay throughout the morning.
