Our personal and shared heritage is told by the values and attitudes of the day. Join local authors Lisa Collyer and Gemma Nisbet as they talk to the way their debut books speak to the gaps and silence in social discourse, giving voice to our undocumented feelings.
About Lisa Collyer
Lisa Collyer is a writer and educator in Boorloo (Perth). She is the author of the poetry collection, How To Order Eggs Sunny Side Up which was short-listed for The Dorothy Hewett Award and published with Life Before Man Books. Her personal essay, Prolonged Exposure is published in the anthology Women of a Certain Courage with Fremantle Press. Her poem, The Grape Pickers, was short-listed for the Gwen Harwood Poetry Prize (2025). She recently won an artist residence at Bundanon Art Museum (2025) where she will create new work on climate grief. Her second poetry collection, Gold Digger will be published in September 2025.
About Gemma Nisbet
Gemma Nisbet is a writer and academic living and working on Whadjuk Noongar Boodja. She is a Lecturer in Professional Writing and Publishing at Curtin University and has a PhD in Creative Writing from the University of Western Australia. Her debut book, The Things We Live With: Essays on Uncertainty, was shortlisted for 2024 WA Premier's Prize for an Emerging Writer.
