Absolute Beginner Island Dance

Gold Coast ladies over 30 years old... Come join us at the Broadbeach Cultural Centre for a fun-filled event where you can learn the basics of island dance! No experience necessary - this class is perfect for absolute beginners. Get ready to move to the rhythm of the islands in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Immerse yourself in the music and culture as you learn simple steps and grooves. Don't miss out on this opportunity to try something new and exciting!

This class is not limited solely to island dance. Rather, island dance is used as just one of the tools that we use to feel into our femininity. I will be going over other tools that help us soften and allow us to actually feel.

What to expect:

1) In the first 3 hours you will learn:

  • How to do the basic island swaying of the hips in different directions and in different combinations
  • You will learn the actions to one, basic, absolute beginner level island dance
  • You will also learn 3 different tools that you can use to shift your energy to a space of softness at any time, as needed

2) In the 4th hour you will create your own Floral Headpiece. Materials and guidance will be provided.

This experience is about so much more than just learning the basic steps to Island dance. This will give you a beautiful foundation and tools to assist you when everyday life feels a little crazy.

Some beautiful words from those who have been through the program:

"Thoroughly enjoyed every moment and so keen to learn more dances, hone the skills and perfect Fakateretere! What a beautiful dance and song taught by the best" - Rhiannon

"More than just a hula dance class, your sessions are a celebration of feminiity and self discovery. I was not expecting to be feeling that much empowerment from a beginners hula class. Thank you" - Mereia

"We will be back for more classes. We all loved it..." - Sandra

* You making a booking secures one of the 15 spots available. Please ensure that if you do secure one of the limited spots, you will be able to make the session. There will be no refunds available *

Renée has been dancing since she was 5 years old. At 8 years old, she taught her first group - her class (year) in primary school who then performed for parents and teachers.

Renée has been in dance groups in Fiji, England, and is now in Australia. She has performed in events ranging from private functions for family and friends to entertaining on international cruise ships, to major tourism & sporting events with audiences in the tens of thousands, and everything in between.

Over the years Renée has repetitively been asked to teach island dance (to more than just family and friends), and is excited to now be sharing her love of dance with others.

For Renée, Island dance is not just about swaying hips and learning actions to a song. Rather, Renée uses it as a tool, in addition to others, to soften into her femininity. This is what she shares.

These tools together are simple, yet so effective in shifting mood and energy when everyday life feels a little crazy.

If any of this resonates, join her - you won’t regret it :)
